Speech Therapy

Speech-Language Pathologists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children. We work with children with a variety of delays and disorders spanning from mild articulation delays to more complex disorders such as Autism, Down Syndrome, hearing impairment, motor speech disorders, and other developmental delays.



Speech Developmental Norms:


By age 2:

-  Words: 50-200
- 2-4 word phrases

- Answers when asked “what’s that?”

- Sounds:  t, d, n, k, g, p,b, w


By age 3:

- Words: 800-900
- 4-5 word phrases
- Ask/Answers “who & where”

- Sounds: m, h, tw, kw


By age 4:

- Words: 900-1500
- 5-6 word sentences

- Follows 2 step directions

- Sounds: l, f, v, All /l/ blends


By age 5:

- Words: 1500-2000
- 4-8 word sentences

- Understands prepositions

- Sounds: s, z, sh, ch, j, t


By age 6:

- Asks “how” questions

- Follows 3-step directions

- Sounds: All /s/ blends, th


By age 7:

-All sounds are typically mastered
